03 / Custom Software & Apps

Software that
only exists
because of AI.

The cost and time of building custom software has collapsed. New API endpoints let AI interact with the internet in ways that weren't possible two years ago. Things that weren't worth building are now the obvious thing to build. We build them.

The shift

AI didn't just make
developers faster.
It changed what's worth building.

For years, the calculus was simple: if a SaaS tool exists that roughly does the job, it's cheaper to subscribe than to build. That calculus has flipped.

AI-assisted development has compressed build time by 60–80% on well-scoped projects. What once required six months and a team of four now takes six weeks and one senior engineer working with the right AI harness. The economics of custom software are fundamentally different.

At the same time, new API endpoints — browser control, computer use, real-time web access, multimodal understanding — have created a class of software that simply couldn't be built before. Apps that read, see, and act on the world in real time. Systems that integrate with anything, not just the tools that have documented APIs.

We build in this new landscape every day. We know what's possible, how long it takes, and — just as importantly — when it's not the right answer.

Shift 01
Build time has compressed 60–80%
AI-assisted development means a senior engineer ships what used to take a team. The cost equation has permanently changed.
Shift 02
New APIs let software interact with the internet
Browser control, computer use, and real-time web access endpoints mean software can do things that required a human operator two years ago.
Shift 03
AI can be embedded natively into any interface
Not a chatbot bolted on. Reasoning, generation, and extraction woven into the core experience — as a first-class feature, not an afterthought.
Shift 04
SaaS subscriptions are no longer always cheaper
At scale, the per-seat maths on 6 SaaS tools often loses to owning one custom tool that does exactly what you need with no monthly overhead.
What we build

Nine types of software
we ship regularly.

Build · 01
Internal Ops Dashboards
One screen replacing 6 browser tabs. Live KPIs, team workload, client status, and alerts — pulled from every tool you use and presented the way your ops team actually thinks. AI-surfaced anomalies and auto-generated summaries built in.

Three things software
can do now that it couldn't before.

These aren't theoretical. They're features we've shipped in the last 12 months using API endpoints that didn't exist — or weren't stable enough to build on — two years ago.

Capability 01
Software that reads any document and acts on it
Vision-language models can now read, understand, and extract structured data from any document — PDFs, scanned forms, photos of invoices, handwritten notes. We build pipelines that receive a document and automatically extract, validate, and route the data inside it. No templates, no fixed formats, no brittle OCR rules.

Capability 02
Software that browses the web on your behalf
New browser-control APIs mean software can navigate real websites, fill in forms, extract information, and take actions — without those sites needing to provide an API. We use this to build tools that monitor competitors, aggregate market data, submit applications, and interact with legacy web portals your team currently has to access manually.

Capability 03
Software with genuine reasoning built into the core
Not a chatbot on top of an existing app. Reasoning woven into the actual logic of the product. We build software where AI makes or assists the decisions that matter — classifying, scoring, routing, summarising, generating — as a first-class part of the system, with appropriate human oversight at the right points.

When the right answer
was building something new.

ConstructionCase 05
Six SaaS tools replaced by one custom app.
A 40-person construction firm was duct-taping Procore, Monday, Excel, WhatsApp, and a paper inspection book. We built a single field-team mobile app and ops dashboard tailored to their exact workflow — quotes, jobs, inspections, photos, sign-off, invoicing.

Health & WellnessCase 06
From napkin idea to paying customers.
A coach wanted to launch a SaaS product but had no engineering team. We built the full product — auth, client management, programming tools, billing, white-label branding, AI-assisted plan generation — and shipped to a first paying cohort.

Professional ServicesCase 07
A client portal that stopped 200 emails a week.
A 20-person advisory firm had no client-facing system — everything was email threads, shared Dropbox folders, and manual status updates. We built a branded portal: project timelines, document sharing, approval workflows, invoicing. All in one place.

A legacy portal automated with computer use.
A freight company needed data entered into a government portal with no API. Staff were spending 3 hours daily copying between systems. We deployed a computer-use agent that operates the portal directly, handles exceptions, and logs every action.

How we work

From idea to shipped product
a clear process.

01
Discovery & Scoping
We spend time understanding the problem before we touch a keyboard. What does success look like? Who are the users? What exists already? What's the simplest version that delivers real value? You get a written spec and rough timeline. This session is free.
02
Design & Prototype
We wireframe the core flows and build a clickable prototype before writing production code. You see exactly what you're getting, and we validate assumptions cheaply. Changes here cost hours, not weeks.
03
Build & Iterate
We build in short cycles, shipping working software to a staging environment you can access throughout. Rough guide: 30 days for a focused tool, 60–90 days for a full product, up to 4 months for a complex multi-sided platform. You're involved throughout — not handed something at the end.
04
Launch & Handover
We deploy to production, run QA, set up monitoring and error tracking, and document everything. You receive the full source code, deployment instructions, and admin credentials. The software is yours — outright, forever. No monthly platform fees to us.
05
Support & Evolution
Post-launch support included on every engagement. After that, we can stay involved on a light retainer as your product grows, or your own team takes it from here with our documentation. Either works. We don't engineer dependency.

Questions

Things people ask
before getting started.

Three situations where custom wins: your workflow doesn't fit the SaaS tool so you're constantly working around it; the per-seat cost at your scale exceeds what a build would cost amortised over a few years; or you need capabilities that no SaaS tool offers yet. We'll tell you honestly in the scoping session if a SaaS tool is actually the right answer.
Rough guides: a focused internal tool, 30–60 days. A full product with auth, billing, and a proper UI, 60–90 days. A complex multi-sided platform, 3–4 months. We give you a documented timeline in the scoping session and hold to it.
Yes, completely. You receive the full source code, deployment access, and all credentials on handover. There's no monthly fee to us, no platform lock-in, no dependency on our continued involvement. You can take it to any developer in the world and they can work on it.
Yes. We integrate with whatever you have — CRMs, ERPs, accounting systems, communication tools. If a system has an API, we connect to it. If it doesn't, computer-use agents can often operate it directly. Legacy systems are a specialism, not a blocker.
We build in short cycles so changes are caught early and incorporated cheaply. We document a scope at the start but we're not rigid about it — real products evolve during development. We flag scope changes as they arise and decide together whether to incorporate them in the current engagement or a follow-on.
We include a support period post-launch on every engagement. After that, you can maintain it in-house (your team has the docs and code), bring in any developer, or stay on a light retainer with us. We don't engineer dependency — if you want to leave, you can, with everything intact.
